LAURIER AMAZED AT ENGLISH FEARS

At Dinner to Colonial Premiers in London He Declares Canada Will Remain Loyal.

LONDON, May 23. — The dinner of the Pilgrims Society to-night in honor of the Colonial Premiers was historic because of unexpected and noteworthy plain speaking by Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Premier of Canada.

Colored ex-Convict Shoots Colored Cook After Murdering Her Employer.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 23. — Coming to his door in his night clothing to answer the cries for help from his negro cook, Judge David Barry of Gallatin, thirty miles from here, was shot and killed early this morning by a negro ex-convict, known as Jim Sweat, who directly afterward shot and killed the cook.

Another week half gone and that much means the time when we can make goo goo eyes at each across the table three times a day. Ah Joy! Well let us hope. Business has been on the bum again today. It is much cooler and we are having a nice rain tonight. A livery man drove me to new Kingston tonight and I got a [end of letter]

Are we invading their privacy? This letter startled me as it seems so out of character for John. I assume Sue is "Lauretta." John must still be working for The Osbourne Company even though the deal to own the coal and feed shop went through. His previous letters refer to a start date in August so this must be one of his last letters on the road.
